Definition
The part of an individual's full name that indicates the family or lineage to which they belong. It is also referred to as the 'last name' or 'surname'.
Context
A Family name is used for addressing correspondence. Additionally, a de-identified version of a student's Family name, together with first given name and other given name where provided, is used to uniquely identify the individual in NCVER's data collection.
Guidelines
Where a student has ticked 'single name only', either a 'first given name' or 'Family name' may be reported at submission. Leading/trailing spaces are not permitted.
