Definition

Classifies data into broad financial categories related to training activities and the way they are funded.

Context

It is used to track how much money is being spent on subsidies for training, and where that money is going. This information can be utilised to ensure that subsidies are being used effectively and efficiently.

Guidelines

Financial category identifies instances where one or more, government agencies have provided subsidy funding for training providers as a contribution to the cost of provision of a subject or program of study. Financial data associated with the enrolment can be reported at the program or the subject level. Financial data can be reported at any lifecycle state of the enrolment.

National Program enrolment
BRDG00019 When a program's Financial category contains the word 'subsidy', then the student's international student type code must not be 'international offshore'. A Financial category that includes 'subsidy' for a program enrolment record cannot have an international offshore student.
Update the Financial category or correct the international student type.

BRDG00051 Transitional rule: a program enrolment cannot contain a populated Financial category.
This is a transitional rule to facilitate the capture of non-funded/subsidised training into STARS for the first release.
Government-funded program enrolment activity is unable to be submitted to NCVER at this time.
Submit this program enrolment to the relevant state training authority. Alternatively, correct the Financial category if the enrolment is not government-funded activity.
