Definition

A numerical code assigned to specific geographic areas or locations within a country to facilitate the sorting and delivery of mail assigned by Australia Post.

Context

It is used in conjunction with other address details to collect address information.

Guidelines

The current list of Australia Post Postcodes can be sourced from the Australia Post website. The file from the Australia Post website lists three Australia Post postcode variables under the heading Category; namely, delivery area, large volume receiver (LVR) and post office boxes. These categories may be used to cross-classify residential (delivery area), LVR and post office box with postcode.
