Exemptions from submitting VET Information Standard data

Last updated: 15/07/2026

RTOs may be granted an exemption by their relevant VET regulator from submitting certain VET Information Standard data.

Exemptions and Scope

RTOs may be granted an exemption by their relevant VET regulator from submitting certain VET Information Standard data. Exemptions may apply for training that relates to:

  • national security, border protection or policing matters, or
  • emergency, safety and community services.

Details of the exemption will be provided to the RTO in writing and will include details of:

  • the type of training and associated data covered by the exemption
  • the period the exemption applies for
  • any conditions the exemption is subject to

RTOs that are granted an exemption under the Data Provision Requirements are required to report aggregate data on exempt activity each quarter. This is consistent with the submission timeframes that apply to VET Information Standard reporting.

Please note that NCVER does not grant reporting exemptions. Questions regarding existing exemptions should be directed to the relevant VET Regulator.
