How to access and connect to the VDS Developer Portal
The VDS Developer Portal has technical resources to assist student management system (SMS) suppliers and registered training organisations (RTOs) with connecting to VET Data Streamlining APIs, and in building and integrating their software applications into the Student Training Activity Reporting System (STARS).
Register and login to the VDS Developer Portal
To register for the VDS Developer Portal, click the first button to the right and complete the registration form. Please be aware that it may take up to five business days to create your account.
Once you have registered and received your login credentials, you can click the second button to the right to log in and access the VDS Developer Portal.

SMS readiness to connect
Connecting to the STARS Client Integration Environment (sandbox)
The STARS Client Integration Environment is a test environment that allows SMS suppliers to test their API integrations.
This environment is a non-production sandbox intended for development and testing only.
To connect to the STARS Client Integration Environment, SMS suppliers will need to set up machine-to-machine (M2M) credentials. Guidance on how to set up machine-to-machine credentials can be found on the VDS Developer Portal under 'Onboarding resources', including advice on how to create your self-signed certificate. This action is typically completed by a developer or technical team member.
Registered developer portal users can request to set up organisational credentials for the STARS Client Integration Environment by clicking on the button to the right to access our technical support webform.
