New data reporting requirements published
Australia’s VET activity data reporting environment has taken an important step forward in July 2026, with new Data Provision Requirements published alongside the launch of the NCVER VET Information Standard website. These updates are part of the VET Data Streamlining Program and will help make VET activity data easier to collect, report and use across the sector.
The updated requirements will give Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) clear guidance on submitting accurate and timely training activity data. This includes information about students, courses, providers and outcomes, reported in line with the new VET Information Standard to support more consistent and reliable data across Australia.
Under the new arrangements, RTOs will use digital systems that can collect and submit reportable data, typically through a student management system. They will also report relevant training activity at least quarterly and ensure their data is complete and meets the VET Information Standard requirements.
The launch is an important milestone in modernising Australia’s national VET data environment and building a stronger evidence base to improve skills and training outcomes and inform better public policy.
