Technical elements in context

The VET Information Standard includes:
 

  • Information elements - collected by RTOs 

  • Technical elements - provided by student management system (SMS) suppliers

These elements are transferred from a registered training organisation’s (RTO) SMS to the National VET Data System via API files. 

The diagram below represents how the information and technical elements in the VET Information Standard are transferred.  It shows the data groupings with context, structure, and relationships. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the open Application Programming Interface (API) technical specification.

Technical elements support the provision of information elements and ensure that student and training activity records are complete and provided in the correct structure and format.
