Reporting delivery information for a subject enrolment

Last updated: 15/07/2026

The VET Information Standard enables RTOs to report information about how and where their organisation delivers training, providing insights into students’ contemporary learning experiences.

This information is captured across three elements – Learning channel, learning delivery, and training venue type:

  • Learning channel: Which identifies if a subject enrolment is delivered face-to-face or remote (online)

  • Learning delivery: Which identifies if a subject enrolment is delivered in a directed or self-paced manner

  • Training venue type: Which identifies the type of location as on site, offsite, workplace or undefined, for both the subject delivery location (i.e. trainer coordination point), and the student learning location (i.e. where the student is learning from)

Multimodal delivery

Multiple responses can be reported for each of the new elements. For example, a subject enrolment can have a learning channel that is both ‘Face-to-face' and ‘Remote (online)’.

Predominance

As multiple responses can be reported for each element, the VET Information Standard includes a predominant indicator for each response. These indicators are:

Predominant learning channel

Predominant learning delivery

Predominant training venue

Reporting this information in combination

Multiple combinations of reporting these elements are allowable, depending on how the subject enrolment is structured.

Scenario

  • A subject enrolment is fully directed in a classroom environment, but occasionally students join classes online. This would be reported as follows:

Learning Channel

A learning channel of both face-to-face and remote (online) would be selected for the subject enrolment. As there is more than one classification selected, the RTO identifies the predominant learning channel. In this example, the student is primarily attending in person in the classroom, therefore the predominant learning channel is Yes for face-to-face, and No for remote (online).

Remote (online)

No

Learning channel can have equally predominant learning channels where there are more than one.

Learning Delivery

In this example, the class is always directed, therefore the only value to be reported for the subject enrolment learning delivery is directed. As there is only one value reported for learning delivery, the predominant learning delivery is Yes.

Training Venue Type

Training venue type is reported against each location usage type. Every subject enrolment has the location usage types of subject delivery location and student learning location. Each subject enrolment must be reported with at least one subject delivery location and one student learning location.

Predominant training venue is reported for each reported location usage type with at least one record showing a predominant training venue as Yes for both a subject delivery location and a student learning location. If there is only one venue for each of the subject delivery location and student learning location, then the RTO reports both as Yes under the predominant training venue.

Using the above example of face-to-face training with occasional remote learning, there are two locations (the onsite training venue and the student’s home). As the onsite training venue is used for both subject delivery and student learning, it is reported twice, once against each location usage type.

The subject delivery location on site facility is reported as having the predominant training venue of Yes (being the only value for delivery location). The on site facility for the student learning location is also reported as Yes because it is the most predominant of the two learning locations. The student learning location of other (undefined) is reported with No for the predominant training venue as the student only occasionally joins online from their home location.
