Third party organisations

Last updated: 15/07/2026

RTOs often engage with other organisations, known as third parties, to deliver training and/or assessment of VET courses. The VET Information Standard now requires third party arrangements to be reported.

This page explains how third-party arrangements are to be captured to satisfy the requirements of the VET Information Standard, including the type of arrangement and how third parties are identified.

What it captures

Third party organisations must be identified under the VET Information Standard along with the type of relationship between the RTO and the third-party organisation.

An appropriate identifier is required based on the type of third-party organisation:

Organisation type

Identifier

RTO (Australia)

Training organisation identifier

Non-RTO (Australia)

Australia Business Number (ABN)

Non-Australian organisation

Training organisation name

Type of arrangement

All third-party arrangements must be recorded through the participant involvement type information element, which identifies the type of relationship an organisation has to a student enrolment. It is used when third-party arrangements for training and assessment are executed.

The types of arrangements covered by the participant involvement type classifications are:

  • Training

  • Assessment

The following four elements are used to capture third party arrangements:
