Last updated: 15/07/2026

This page explains how to update or correct information previously submitted under the VET Information Standard, including when and how changes to information elements must be reported.

Reporting changes to previously submitted records

Any previously provided information that has subsequently changed or requires correction must be provided by the RTO. This is necessary to maintain the accuracy and completeness of student records. Each change or correction must be provided either progressively during a reporting period or together at the end of the reporting period.

Scenarios – Reporting changes to previously submitted records

  • A student has provided their address information to their RTO and it has been entered into the RTOs SMS and reported. Sometime later, the student updates their address with their new residence. This updated information must be reported within the reporting period that the student provided the information to the RTO.

  • A student has noticed that their date of birth has been incorrectly entered by their RTO, the student advised their RTO of the error and provides accurate date of birth information. This updated information must be reported within the reporting period that the student provided the information to the RTO.
