VET Information Standard Unique Identifiers

Last updated: 15/07/2026

The VET Information Standard Unique Identifiers are system generated unique values used to represent a business key within a VET Information Standard entity. Each unique identifier is generated by the RTO’s student management system and must be provided to STARS.

These unique IDs can represent an instance of a unique entity or that one entity is connected to another (e.g. “parent program of subject enrolment UID” is used to identify the program enrolment, which includes the subject enrolment).

Technical elements

The following technical elements are collated from Section 2, Technical elements and specifications of the VET Information Standard.

If you are an SMS vendor or would like to find out more information about the VET IS Unique IDs, please access and connect to the VDS Developer Portal.
