VET Information Standard: What's changed

The VET Information Standard is the contemporary, dynamic standard for Australia’s modern vocational education and training market. It transforms the collection of VET student and training activity data by capturing changes throughout a student’s vocational training, providing richer insights into their VET pathways. The new standard also introduces structural changes, new and updated information elements, and a new sample enrolment form.

Key Changes

The VET Information Standard provides a more complete picture of student activity by capturing changes as they occur and providing greater insight into how and where training is delivered.

New or updated classification structures

The VET Information Standard incorporates new or updated classification structures to align with current national standards and to provide richer information about Australia’s VET sector and its students.

The VET Information Standard introduces several new concepts to support improved data collection across the sector.

VET Information Standard Information elements alignment to AVETMISS 8.0

A number of changes have occurred within the VET Information Standard to elements and classifications compared with AVETMISS. 

To support stakeholders understand the changes, a complete list of VET Information Standard elements and their differences from AVETMISS has been prepared. 

AVETMISS alignment – Each Information Element has been classified as:

  • No change: The information element remains unchanged with no updates made

  • Modified – classification change: An existing information element that has been updated due to a change in its classifications values

  • Modified – merge / split: An existing information element that has been reorganised, either combined with another element or divided into more that one information element

  • Modified – major change: An existing information element that has been significantly updated

  • New: A new information element added
